Rosalyne Blumenstein, author of "Branded T" (2003)

In this episode I speak with Rosalyne Blumenstein.

Rosalyne is now a social worker living in California, but in 2003 she wrote a memoir titled Branded T which detailed very openly her time living and working in Times Square during the 1980s.  Rosalyne’s book also documented her social and medical gender transition, and we discuss her thoughts on having shared so openly about that process.  We also talk about the New York nightclubs she worked in or frequented, including the 220 Club, GG Barnum Room, and Gilded Grape, and how those spaces shaped her process of self discovery.

Radio Never Apart : Marta Marta of The House of Pride

Radio Never Apart is an interview feature started at the beginning of 2020, which launches monthly as part of the Never Apart online magazine. I have interviewed some incredible people in various aspects of nightlife and nightlife culture across North America, including performers, DJs, drag performers, promoters, and so many more.

In this episode I speak with Marta Marta of the House of Pride.

House of Pride is a multi-disciplinary performance collective that emerged in Montreal in the 1990s, consisting of Stephen "LaReign" Hues, Jackie Jet, Joffrey Dumas (aka Frigid), Kiet Ha, Gartina J., and Martha Carter (aka Marta Marta). They were prolific in their output, from performing at nightclubs and parties, to eventually launching a show in a theatre venue, before parting ways around the year 2000.

HOUSE OF PRIDE ★ BALLROOM BOUDOIR is part of the Summer 2021 exhibition season at Never Apart in Montreal.
