The passing of fashion icons spurs a resurgence and revisiting of a designers legacy, which has been the case with Thierry Mugler whose death was announced January 23, 2022. Prior to his death Mugler had been in the spotlight again, with some notable red-carpet contributions and an exhibition dedicated to his legacy that toured in recent years.
I had the fortune of seeing the exhibition when it debuted in Montreal in 2019. I consider myself an admirer more than a diehard fan, I have studied Mugler’s designs and adore George Michael’s “Too Funky” video which was essentially a Mugler fashion show within a music video.
The most captivating element of the Montreal Beaux Arts Mugler exhibition was how close visitors could get to the designs, which was unusual for a designer of that magnitude in comparison to many other fashion exhibitions I’ve attended.
In honour of Mugler I’m sharing some of my photos from my visit, particularly detail shots which capture just how incredible they were up close.
